Last updated September 2026. This is the fullest draft we've written so far, covering every part of the product — but it is still a founder-written draft, not a lawyer-reviewed final document. Have a licensed attorney review this in full — especially the Dispute Resolution & Arbitration, Limitation of Liability, and Taxes sections — before YardHub processes real payments at any meaningful volume. In-app payments run on Stripe Connect and are currently live for item purchases and bookings; anything still marked as a placeholder below needs real numbers or legal language before you rely on it.
YardHub is a platform built by and for verified college students to buy and sell used items, exchange event tickets, book grooming/beauty and photography/design services with fellow students, and support student-run businesses and organizations on their own campus. It organizes activity that already happens informally over GroupMe, Instagram DMs, and word of mouth into one trusted place — built for any college campus, currently active at North Carolina A&T, UNC Greensboro, and Winston-Salem State, with more campuses launching as YardHub grows.
YardHub is operated by [Legal Entity Name], a North Carolina limited liability company (“YardHub,” “we,” or “us”). By using YardHub — the website, the iOS/Android app, or any related service — you agree to these Terms & Community Guidelines (“Terms”). If you don't agree, don't use YardHub.
YardHub is currently in an early, growing stage. Features, pricing, fees, and these guidelines will keep changing as the product grows.
You must be at least 18 years old, and able to form a binding contract, to use YardHub.
Signing up with a school email doesn't by itself confirm your age — some enrolled students are under 18 (for example, early-admission students). By creating an account, you're representing that you're 18 or older and legally able to agree to these Terms. If YardHub learns an account belongs to someone under 18, it may suspend or remove that account.
YardHub is a venue that connects students to buy, sell, and book services with each other. YardHub is not a party to any transaction or booking between users.
Subject to these Terms, YardHub grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the YardHub website and app for your own personal, non-commercial use (or, for approved sellers/providers/businesses/organizations, to operate your storefront or booking profile on YardHub). This license doesn't give you any ownership interest in YardHub or its technology.
You may not, and may not help anyone else:
YardHub may suspend or terminate this license at any time as described in Termination below.
You own the content you post to YardHub — listings, photos, portfolio images, reviews, messages, provider/brand/organization profile content, and anything else you upload (“Your Content”). We don't claim ownership of it.
By posting Your Content, you grant YardHub a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute Your Content solely as needed to operate, promote, and improve YardHub — for example, showing your listing to other students, including your storefront in a category page, or using a screenshot of the product in YardHub's own marketing with reasonable attribution where practical. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for copies reasonably needed for backups, legal compliance, or records of a completed transaction.
You're solely responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the rights necessary to post it and grant this license — including rights to any photo, design, or likeness used.
The YardHub name, logo, wordmark, app, website, design, and underlying software are owned by YardHub or its licensors and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Except for the limited license above, nothing in these Terms transfers any YardHub intellectual property to you. You may not use YardHub's name, logo, or branding without prior written permission, except as reasonably necessary to accurately reference that your business or organization is on YardHub (e.g. “Find me on YardHub”).
YardHub is built on top of several third-party services, each with their own terms and privacy practices governing the data they process on YardHub's behalf:
YardHub isn't responsible for outages, errors, or policy changes at these providers, though we'll work to minimize their impact on you.
Listing something for sale
Prohibited items
Both Cuts & Styles and Photography & Design run on the same booking system, so these guidelines apply to both — whether the provider is a student or an approved local business.
If you're a provider
If you're booking
Meeting people in person and booking in-person services both carry real risk. Using YardHub for either means accepting that risk.
YardHub's in-app checkout and booking-payment functionality runs on Stripe Connect. When you buy an item, sell a ticket, or pay for a completed booking, Stripe processes that payment and — for marketplace sales and bookings — routes the seller or provider's share directly to their connected Stripe account, minus YardHub's platform fee (see Seller fees & tiers below), disclosed before you pay.
When a seller or provider connects a Stripe account, sensitive identity and financial information (like bank details) is collected directly by Stripe on Stripe's own hosted onboarding page — YardHub does not receive or store that information itself, only an account reference from Stripe.
YardHub does not hold funds in escrow beyond the ordinary settlement time Stripe requires to process a payment, unless a specific hold is disclosed at checkout. Booking or paying outside the app to avoid YardHub's fee, once a deal was arranged through YardHub, is against these guidelines.
Because YardHub is a venue connecting independent buyers, sellers, customers, and providers, refund and cancellation terms are primarily between those two parties — check a listing or provider's stated policy before you buy or book. That said:
Sellers, providers, businesses, and organizations are solely responsible for determining and paying any taxes owed on income earned through YardHub — YardHub does not provide tax advice. Where required by law, Stripe (as the payment processor) may issue tax forms (for example, Form 1099-K) directly to sellers/providers who meet applicable reporting thresholds. YardHub itself is responsible for any taxes on the fees YardHub collects as revenue, not on the underlying transaction amounts paid to sellers and providers.
YardPoints are a loyalty benefit, not currency, a gift card, a deposit, or a financial product. YardPoints have no cash value, cannot be sold, transferred between accounts, or redeemed for cash under any circumstance — they can only be redeemed inside YardHub for discounts, credits, or offers YardHub or a participating seller makes available. This distinction matters legally: it's what keeps a loyalty program from being treated as a regulated financial instrument (the same reason airline miles or coffee-shop stars work this way).
YardHub can change how YardPoints are earned, their value, or expire unused points with reasonable notice posted in the app. YardHub may suspend or revoke points earned through fraud, fake accounts, self-referrals, or abuse of the referral program at its discretion.
The referral program rewards both the referring student and the new student only after the new student completes an actual qualifying transaction on YardHub — creating an account alone doesn't earn a reward, for either side. Referring yourself, using fake or duplicate accounts, or coordinating with someone to fake a qualifying transaction is prohibited and can result in forfeited rewards and account suspension.
YardHub charges a platform fee on completed transactions, disclosed before checkout. That fee varies by seller tier, based on a seller or provider's track record of legitimate, verified completed transactions on YardHub:
YardHub will publish the current tier thresholds and fee percentages in the app and may adjust them with notice. A seller or provider's tier is based only on legitimate, verified platform activity — YardHub may remove or downgrade a tier obtained through fraudulent transactions, fake accounts, or manipulated activity.
YardHub Pass, where offered, is a paid, recurring subscription billed to the payment method on file until canceled. Pricing, billing frequency, and included benefits will be disclosed in full before you subscribe. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future billing but doesn't refund the current billing period unless required by law. Benefits (discounts, early access, partner offers) are provided by YardHub and by participating sellers/organizations and can change; YardHub isn't responsible for a specific seller discontinuing a Pass benefit.
You're responsible for what you post — listings, photos, provider profiles, reviews, and messages. Don't post anything illegal, fraudulent, harassing, or that you don't have the right to post. YardHub may remove any content, listing, provider profile, review, or account that violates these guidelines, with or without notice.
Copyright complaints (DMCA)
If you believe something posted on YardHub infringes your copyright, send a notice to YardHub's designated agent (see Questions or issues) that includes: (1) a description of the copyrighted work; (2) the location of the allegedly infringing material on YardHub; (3) your contact information; (4) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized; (5) a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and you're authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf; and (6) your physical or electronic signature. YardHub will remove or disable access to infringing material and may terminate repeat infringers' accounts. A user whose content is removed may submit a counter-notice under the same process. [YardHub's registered DMCA agent name/address will be added here once designated with the U.S. Copyright Office] — until then, use the contact method below.
Use the Report link on any listing, provider profile, or review to flag something to the YardHub team. Reports go to a moderation queue that admins review directly.
Depending on what happened, enforcement can include:
If you think a decision was made in error, reach out to the YardHub team — see Questions or issues below.
YardHub stores your account, profile, transaction, and activity information to run the product — matching buyers and sellers, showing your profile, processing payments, and moderating content. It isn't sold to third parties. See our full Privacy Policy for the complete details of what's collected and how it's used.
By using YardHub, you consent to receive communications from us electronically — email, in-app notifications, and push notifications (if enabled). You agree that any notice, agreement, disclosure, or other communication we send electronically satisfies any legal requirement that it be in writing. You're responsible for keeping your contact information current so you actually receive these.
YardHub is provided as-is and as-available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee the accuracy of listings or provider profiles, the identity, conduct, licensing, or reliability of any user, the outcome or quality of any transaction, sale, or service arranged through the platform, or that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
To the maximum extent the law allows, YardHub's liability to you is limited.
The dollar cap above is a placeholder structure, not lawyer-drafted language — the exact number and wording need real legal review before this is relied on.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless YardHub, its founder(s), and anyone helping operate it, from any claim, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: your use of YardHub; any listing, sale, purchase, booking, or service you provide or receive through YardHub; your violation of these Terms; your violation of any law or of another person's rights; or any dispute between you and another user. This means if someone brings a claim against YardHub because of something you did, you're responsible for covering YardHub's resulting costs.
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights.
Most disagreements can get sorted out by contacting us directly — try that first (see Questions or issues) before starting any formal proceeding.
If a dispute isn't resolved informally within 30 days, you and YardHub agree that any claim or dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of YardHub — except disputes that qualify for small claims court — will be resolved by binding individual arbitration, not in court.
This is a real, binding clause that changes how you can pursue a dispute against YardHub — most importantly, it waives your right to sue in court or join a class action for covered claims. It has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer and is not final. Do not treat it as enforceable, final legal language until a licensed attorney has drafted or approved it.
These Terms, and any dispute not subject to arbitration above, are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Subject to the arbitration agreement above, the exclusive venue for any such dispute is the state or federal courts located in the North Carolina county where [Legal Entity Name] is registered, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
YardHub isn't responsible for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control — natural disasters, campus closures, internet or infrastructure outages, acts of government, labor disputes, or similar events.
YardHub is early and these guidelines will change as the product does. We'll update the date at the top of this page when that happens, and will make a reasonable effort to flag material changes in the app. Continuing to use YardHub after an update means you accept the current version.
If something goes wrong or you have a concern that isn't covered by the Report button, reach out to the YardHub team directly.
